How to File Deduction for Nanny Services (Ontario)

There are provisions in place to provide some relief for taxpayers that have childcare expenses. This deduction can reach a maximum of $5,000 - $11,000 depending on your personal circumstances. However, this deduction is calculated per child, so if you have several children, you could indeed save yourself a lot of money by doing this tax deduction.

So where do you start? Well, let’s find out.

How To Claim Your Deduction

First off, you need to start keeping all of your receipts and records of payments you have made that are related to your childcare and nanny services. If you are not given a receipt then make sure that you request one. Without this info, you won't be able to prove how much have spent and you won't be able to get a good reduction.

Next, you need to fill in the correct forms and send them off.  The form you will likely need to fill and submit is called a ON479-A and it will be called an Ontario Childcare Access and Relief from Expenses tax credit. In short form, it may be referred to as C.A.R.E.

Who Can Help?

To get the correct forms and to send them to the correct location, you will need to speak to the right person. The person with all the information will be the Canada Revenue Agencies. You can call them directly and explain what you need and they should be able to give you the correct forms and place to send them.

However, the help you get is not limited to just them. If you are using a professional nanny agency, they can usually answer most questions regarding nanny service deductions and they have a wealth of experience with submitting them.
